The Invisible Sign

July 1, 2007 | Filed Under Uncategorized |

When I spoke to McDonald’s Customer Services I was told that I could have asked the manager in the store for more time.
Apart from the fact I didn’t realise that I would be needing more time I asked how I was supposed to know that information, I was told there were signs in the store. You’re going to like this….

Here is what the sign says; (as my Nokia was a bit blurry)
“To ensure that our customers have the opportunity to park adjacent to this restaurant, it has become necessary to impose time limits on parking”

In the very tiny print it goes on to say;
“Customers will therefore be permitted to park for a maximum of 45 minutes with no return within 2 hours. If you are in a large group and require additional time for your visit, please speak to the shift manager at the beginning of your visit.”

So what’s funny about this? Well let’s have a look at where that sign actually is….

NOWHERE NEAR the entrance (which is over there on the right), NOWHERE NEAR the service counter and oddly enough,
NOWHERE NEAR
those people who are eating their meal!

If they happen to need the toilet they might walk past the sign, and the chances of them reading it are - well, very small to say the least.
This is apparently McDonald’s way of making it clear that you can “speak to the shift manager at the beginning of your visit”!

Words come to mind for companies who do business like this…

Note: On the wall to the right of the staff member is the “Crayoning Display”. As you may notice it is empty. I don’t know if this is coincidence or as a result of my complaint. I will check it out at a later date.

I totally agree, this is absurd and does nothing to help relations with customers!

    Hi
I too have received a fine from Civil Enforcement Ltd for an extortionate £75. I was parked in Mcdonalds Gatwick for allegedly 1hr 15 mins although i doubt if it was that long. Whats your situation now? Should i pay up or not? You said that there could be a possibility of getting a refund from MuckDonalds - is that realistic do you think? I have 10 days to go before my fine goes up - your thoughts would be helpful. Thanks.

Does it state what will happen if you stay in excess of the 45mns and does either the manager or McDonald’s receive any of the parking fine?

Hi I was so pleased to read your details on your website. My problems are exactly the same. My letter arrived yesterday giving me a 125/75 fine for parking whilst i had my food in McDonalds in LGW ON 15th August 2007.I find the whole thing totally absurd.I believe the advertising says Youll always find a welcome at McDonalds maybe thats not the case. Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated… Many Thanks Sue
