McDonald's... are YOU lovin' it?

McDonald's and Me:
I had a certain trust in McDonald's, I honestly thought it was a great family orientated company. Recent events have made me realise that this is misplaced trust.
The internet gives me the opportunity to air my frustrations, at least verbally.

I am not ashamed to admit that I have worked in McDonald's, 3 times in fact. First when I was only 17, then 20 and finally at 27. You might think that I have made this website because I am some kind of "disgruntled employee" but you would be wrong. From the first day I joined McDonald's, aged 17, I loved it. I loved the food, the people and the atmosphere. I remember sitting watching a training video (yes, they had video back then) that went something like this;

[Manager walking towards the restaurant]
Narrator: "What are you doing Bob?"
Bob the Manager: "I'm just checking the parking lot and the outside of the restaurant, the planting and the signs. I like to make sure that everything is OK. My shift starts before I even enter the restaurant".

...I was hooked. It was like watching a Nazi propaganda movie and I fell for it hook, line and sinker. The fact that the manager on my first shift was climbing around like a monkey on 10 foot high shelves without a ladder, throwing boxes down for me to catch, had absolutely nothing to do with it (honest).

I guess I just enjoyed working in the fast food environment. A lot of my friends worked there and I met a whole lot more, even my wife was a McDonald's employee when I met her. Apart from working at McDonald's three times, I have worked at Wimpy and twice at BurgerKing before going on to open my own business. Currently 90% of my friends are ex-McDonald's employees whom I have worked with at some time or another. Between us we have some interesting McStories.

I admit to not being the best McDonald's manager that ever lived. Although I was always 100% commited I found it difficult to work in an environment where my boss would brag about the amount of class A drugs he was able to consume or how well he was doing in the "sleep with every female employee" department. It was hardly an inspiring example to follow.

It just so happens that I am blessed by living in a town that must hold some kind of McDonald's world record. We have four McDonald's restaurants within half a mile (all of which are franchised and owned by the same person). Frankly it's absurd, if you walk for ten minutes you can visit all four. It's not something that I can particularly avoid as I walk through town with my children...

...which I why I am so annoyed with the crap I currently receive from them!

Having lived and breathed the fast food environment for many years I feel it qualifies me to be able to talk about it, if you have something to say, please join in at the forum.
I would like to hear your opinions.
